Life can be very fulfilling on occasion. I sometimes have to go days without a glimpse of tit-bits. His Lordship, despite appearing to be a big softie, actually is quite severe in limiting my special little treats “from the table”. However, when we entertain in Rumpy Pumpy Court I always do rather well.
So it proved this week, when some delightful folks took a big risk to come down here by the riverside to be fed and watered by himself. Himself plays at being a cook. I haven’t worked out whether he has plans to attempt to be a chef, but I can tell you he takes it all very seriously.
I always know when folks are coming because he rushes around all day in the kitchen and barely has time to deliver me a kick up the backside (affectionate) or even to take me out ball chasing. He is all go go go!
Its not that he does much, well at least he doesn’t seem to when I wake up and take a look. He has taught me quite a lot of swear words, and it does appear he burns his fingers every single time he does something. But….there a few happy whoops when he tastes things so something must go correctly.
I guess he was a little tense this week because his guests were the lovely folks Tim & Sharon who had bought his previous house (it was the first time they had been down) and who had virtually rebuilt it into a marvellous ultra-modern house. Plus chef Daren and wife Louise, the man who the Boss considers his cooking “mentor” with his cookery demos and soon-to-be cookery school. Thankfully it all went well, and I was especially happy because I was first in line for any fish skins left from the sea bream. My goodness, they were nice. I did feel he was a little tight with the pate, but I did do well in the cheese stakes with slithers of cheddar. I cannot understand why I’m not allowed any Epoisses though! He says something about “silent farts being bad enough anyway”! I have no idea what he means.
The next day brought me even more success. Initially it looked bad, because he got me up early and then lumped me into the car. I’m not a fan of car travel and I think I will expand on this another day. I was then confused because he kept stopping. However, every time he stopped he picked up one of my mates – first Rachel ( she’s good for a bit of cheese), then Roy (crisps) and finally Lizzie (anything)!!!
It transpired we were off on a road-trip (my first) to visit their good friend (and mine) Neville, who needed a bit of good news taken his way. It was all so great. I slept most of the way, then a little stroll through Corsham (where they film street scenes for some series called Poldark) – I will let you into a secret here! Every time there was a mention of this bloke Poldark, Lizzie went into a swoon and a dither. I have no idea why!!!
Lunch in a fabulous little olde worlde pub, where the Master was in generous mood with his ham, eggs and chips. My goodness, those chips were fat buggers! Then we walked around a Capability Brown designed garden belonging to the big house and I had a good run. What more could I have asked for!
So you see, we took Nev good news and a smile from all of us from Bewdley. Catching up with special friends is a pretty good habit I reckon, especially when they are as generous as this bloke Neville is to people. If I have learnt one thing from the Boss – despite his rather abrasive bark sometimes – it is that friends are the life-blood for everything.
So when I looked up Mr D’s lyrics for a header, it seemed to me that taking good news was a good plan!
Woof! Woof!
