This New Year stuff sparks off so many things I’ve become almost confused! Most of all, it emphasizes how fast time flows past you in life. Let’s be honest, a lot of the time we float along believing that we have all the time in the world to do whatever it is you “plan” to do. But, occasionally, we receive a jolt that life is actually incredibly precious and can be taken away in an instant.
The Boss popped in to have his glorious golden locks trimmed this week (haha golden?? Grey since he was about 25, so I gather). His hairdresser, a lovely bloke Ashley (even if he is a Chelski supporter), when Him Indoors asked about how Ash’s Dad was doing. Ash told him that he had died just before Christmas and that it had been a difficult time. Ash’s Dad was not old at all, so died young, deprived of seeing his grand-children growing up. Obviously Him Indoors relates to this after Chris, but you know, so many folks don’t seem to realise that life is a privilege..not a right!
The weather recently hasn’t helped put me on top of the world either. Every day after walking I’m into the sink. Scrubbed down. Look folks, I do behave, but please understand it’s a pain in the backside what with all the shampooing, drying and all that goes with it. I’m sometimes asked not to jump on my settee until I’ve dried off a bit. Can you believe that? But, after being brushed, I do end up looking incredibly handsome, so there is a major upside to it all.
I suppose seeing as how I’m allowed to go and sleep everywhere – quite correctly, as I am The Master of the House – it’s fair, but it does mean my breakfast gets later every day!!
The footy front has cheered him up (in truth, he was such a miserable sod in December when United were, fundamentally, playing crap – if even I can tell they are crap, believe me, they WERE crap). It appears they’ve signed some Chilean bloke who is apparently supposed to be world-class good so I live in hope of happier footy days in Pump Court. It would be true to say that his mood is always lightened when any of the Scousers, The Gunners or the Russians lose. Particularly the Scousers. Now I have no idea why, although he was going on about “over twenty years of misery” to somebody the other day and referred to Bob Paisleys School of Formation Dancing. Any ideas because it’s way before my time!
My music knowledge is increasing by the day! Unintentionally I should add! Him Indoors has established (by a combination of fluke and luck) that if he chooses Songs & Shuffle All on his Music Library we can get every track from his collection playing in turn through the house. I will put this in context. This currently shows we are going to play 17, 341 songs!!!!!!!
Apparently I can live to be about 115 years old to listen to them all or something like that! Whatever it is, he must be a hero!! And it’s not all Bob Dylan, who is at a mere 3,000 tracks because all the bootlegs are not on the computer, so he told me, much as I love The Maestro. It has all come to halt however, because a power cut messed up his internet system and it won’t work. Think of me tomorrow, please, because he has announced “that’s it, I’ve got to go into the loft and sort it out”. This is code for “i haven’t got a clue what to do and i am going to be very miserable and shout a lot”.
You may wonder about our title “Fortune Calls” today. Well, I picked this because he’s “stepping forth” to become Chair (please, please do NOT start him about political correctness, I am overpowered with his ranting) of Bewdley Festival. Watch this space, I think is the right phrase!!
He broke the news to me this week that he is going off on a week’s cruise in April…..and I am not invited! After he had told me I ignored him all weekend (it was wet, horrible and he desperately needed company, but I was having none of it). It seems that MY (not his, selfish sod) mates Rachel and Karen are going to look after me. Let me tell you. He is going to pay for this over the next few weeks. I have to confess that I am a little worried because Karen has acquired a fluffy, waggy tailed six week old border collie. I hope he will be told that I am a senior canine in this world and expect to receive respect at every turn.
In his defence, he has taken me to the pub three times in a week. I’ve had a good few chips, but not too much of the real delights because he ate everything but I do appreciate him taking me out.
So I conclude with a realization that a New Year doesn’t mean anything “New” at all but actually means “more of the same” in most cases.
I wish all my lovely fans happy days. Be aware The Maestro is in in Italy, Austria & Germany in the Spring. Don’t miss him.
Woof! Woof!
