Him Indoors has had a cold. This means he is at death’s door because he’s a man. I understood some time ago that we chaps always get the flu, whilst the ladies of the world only ever get a cold. Have you noticed? In his defence, he was a brave little soldier through it all but when he was trying to infect me with all his sneezing I found it very odd that he didn’t understand why I wouldn’t get near him. He seemed a bit upset when I showed little interest in a cuddle. I ask you!
Because we barely moved for a week – apart from a brief daily constitutional outing for me – I had to suffer all this Brexit stuff on the telly. Is it only me who is completely bored with all this? I mean to say, it has been going on so long I was only a pup when it all started, springing about all over the place and chasing a ball all around Blackstone Meadow for hours. Now I’m a happy old chap in retirement!!
What I don’t understand, as a mere canine observer, is why, if it is as important as we keep being told, that party politics seem to be at the centre of everything. Him Indoors told me that in the past when issues are so important (like going to war, which I reckon this is rapidly approaching) National Unity cabinets were formed. If Brexit is THAT important – and it seems to be – why hasn’t the Maybot created one. All the other parties tell us they could do better at negotiating so let them have go. Perhaps the Maybot could then get on with her day job and start putting right all the wrongs in the country? Plus I confess the concept of watching some of this bunch of politicians being found out appeals to my sense of humour as well.
The dreaded Christmas is approaching. Now I’m not totally a “Bah Humbug” sort of character, but there is a load of old nonsense going on isn’t there. I just saw the truth written in Facebook – folks rushing out buying a months food when supermarkets are only closed for 24 hours! What IS that all about?
Presents by the hundred, fortunes spent when actually all the small children I’ve ever seen much preferred playing with the boxes than the toys they contained! Parents being “black-mailed” by smart marketing into spending more than they can afford, then having to take months to pay for it all. No wonder Him Indoors is a bit turned-off by all the rabid commercialization of it all.
It is, of course, his “low” time of the year. I get lots of hugs (and treats) over Christmas because all his sad memories flood in about his Chris, what with anniversary, birthday, festive days and her final days in hospital. It’s my job to keep him happy, as you know, so I expect we’ll be doing lots of walking during the three weeks and I’ll try to appear enthusiastic chasing the ball down by the river even if its freezing cold or pouring with rain! I hate the rain, my coat gets very wet and there is always water splashing up my belly. I much prefer the settee and the central heating.
I’m not certain about receiving the treats this year though. He’s had me on a bit of a diet just because he’s trying to lose a bit. What’s it got to do with me I asked him, but I received little response and my portions have remained reduced. One good thing however, he gives me all his left-over vegetables since he started because he cooks so many for himself.
His enthusiasm for football seems to be waning by the day. He was never much of a fan of Mr Mourinho (“evil, poisonous, anti-football git” one of his more memorable comments, I seem to recall) but whilst together we sit and suffer as his beloved United bore us both to sleep, his ire turns increasingly to some thief called “Useless Ed” and some mafia outfit known as “The Glazers”. It seems these delightful characters are mainly responsible for the Reds demise due to “robbing the club of 2 billion quid” and an investment strategy diametrically opposed to successful teams.
I should add, he doesn’t consider the other Manchester club “successful” because that club is built on “fraud, corruption and deception” and killing workers in an appallingly corrupt regime. He believes they should be renamed Abu Dhabi Athletic at best or Cheating Fraudulent Murderers at worst!!!!
I can only conclude this little ramble by thanking the Lord he still has his music to keep him off my case. We had a riotous evening with Mr Bridges recently, fuelled by red wine and whiskey celebrating Mr B’s birthday, with The Maestro and Bruce being played VERY loudly and VERY late. Fortunately, I think our neighbour was away otherwise life may not have been quite so ok.
Enjoy Happy Holidays all my lovely fans.
Woof! Woof!
