I’ve been very patient, very quiet. Slept a lot. Kept my counsel. Let Him Indoors off very lightly but its all getting too much. Firstly, why is The Boss being so nice to me all the time? I normally get regular shouting if I’m not up to scratch but no, in recent days, he’s just…sort of, kind. Its not normal. I mean, I know he loves me but come on folks, this isn’t natural. Finally, I realised what it was all about. I had to ask his permission to write about it but he did say, ok go ahead.
My realisation arrived the other morning. I mean morning, as well. 4.30 in the morning he’s suddenly on the move. Now I’m a bit used to this but this was different. First we had the cup of tea downstairs. TV on. But he’s not sitting down. He’s up, then down, then up. Next we’re sat outside (it is pitch black); then we’re back inside; now he’s putting on his fleece and we’re walking the town as dawn is breaking. Nobody about. I’m walking VERY slowly. This is too early for me. I need sleep!
When we’re back, more tea. I’m almost asleep. He lays on the settee. He’s asleep. Thank goodness, I can relax. Then it hits me. The Boss, Him Indoors, my Hero, my Rock, he’s worried, he’s anxious about all this.
When I confront him later in the morning, he tells me that when he gets up in the night and goes down to make tea (as he does, not often but regularly) it’s because he’s had a mild anxiety attack. He doesn’t talk about it much but it’s since he’s been alone and since he’s been older. But he’s happy for me to talk about it because with this pandemic he thinks there will be lots of people suffering similar things and he hopes by telling how he gets them (and deals with it) it might help other folks to deal with it.
Needless to say, I’m trying to help with all this. It has become apparent that lots of us are suffering these sorts of troubles because this is such an unnatural state. We have no control. We’re scared. Perhaps it’s the “closest” to death we’ve ever felt. Anxiety is probably a reasonable state to be in. It’s about understanding its no big deal, lots of us are feeling it. Make the tea. Put on TV. Hug a dog! It applies in the doggie world, I really miss meeting up with some of my local pals. Fortunately Alf has called a couple of times when Auntie Karen has been out walking, so although we don’t lay down in the sun together its really nice to see him here.
The Boss and I have been united in some of rantings. He pointed out that there seemed to be a shortage of support with money from – in his words – “the filthy rich bastards like Branson and Green”. He doesn’t appear very impressed by some bloke called Bezos from Amazon who gave a lot of money in America (now there’s another story!!) but it actually only equalled 0.1% of his wealth.
What I don’t understand – I mentioned this to Himself but his response was a grunt as he got his fat backside up off the settee to get yet another Irish whiskey – is how we can allow our frontline medical staff to be apparently so short of the proper protective clothing. Why can’t all these FRB’s buy all the equipment? They seem to pay no effin taxes?!?!
We’ve have managed to have some fun in Rumpy Pumpy. Because it’s a courtyard we are lucky enough to have benches spread around, so we can sit outside in the nice weather chatting at a safe distance. Its been nice, and I’ve enjoyed laying in the sunshine although I’ve been very deprived of treats!
We’ve been going out for two walks every day. I’m getting on now, my rear legs have lost their spring I do confess, and whilst I can have selective deafness in reality the hearing isn’t what it used to be. I realised the leg troubles today when I had a bit of trouble trying to get up the stairs to get to this computer and write this for you. Slipped down twice but The Boss came and rescued me, pushed me up by the backside. Not very elegant.
I’ve missed my pal Mr Bridges calling. The Boss says he thinks the lad might have found love but I think with no football and all these rules he is actually being sensible. I did have to read this twice I confess when I wrote it. Sensible and Mr Bridges are strange bedfellows to appear in the same sentence. The Boss should have been at Old Trafford with Mr B today. He’s compensated, so it appears, with chocolate and whiskey. That will help his diet no end.
Our highspot of everyday now is on YouTube at 11.00pm. I SO LOUNGING. It’s the beautiful (and so so talented) Amanda Shires with her husband Jason Isbell, who I must tell you all The Boss has up on the pinnacle with The Maestro & Lucinda Williams. Amanda puts on a bit of show every night for charity, music, chat, jokes etc . Its on her YouTube channel and we are addicts. Its left on YouTube so you can watch it in the day! Their celebration to John Prine was wonderful.
Todays highlight was Him Indoors finally working out how to use Skype. I know! I know! It’s not actually that difficult but this is a man who has proved incapable of changing a battery in squeeking fire alarm for over TWELVE MONTHS! He’s not really technologically advanced. My view is, it was actually his cousins husband David who did all the work but I suppose The Boss did switch it on.
I think I’d best pack this in, otherwise you’ll be bored witless. Hope you are all staying safe, that the food parcels have arrived. We did a wine dance on Monday when the red wine was delivered.
Stay safe, stay happy, stay sane. Love and very many hugs, kisses, doggy licks and waggy tails.
Woof! Woof!
