One of these days and it won’t be long
Going down in the valley and sing my song
I will sing it loud and sing it strong
Let the echo decide if I was right or wrong
His Nibs has been in good form since I last wrote. Firstly, the normality of life is returning all the time with planning for this year’s Bewdley Festival. The poor old boy is having to get out of bed every day and do some work! This has come as a bit of a shock, needless to say, but it undoubtedly is good for him. All his helpers from the Festival committee are also getting stuck in to the tasks so all you folks had better be buying your tickets to make sure it is a roaring success.
Last month he went off to Dudley and watched his first live concert since Covid arrived! What a show as well, because it was Robert Plant and Saving Grace. It seemed The Boss and his pal Peter knew everybody there, the amount of chatting that went on during the evening.
In addition to the Festival, the pair of them have started plotting the return of the monthly Music in the Hall gigs with artists booked through the rest of the year. His Nibs needs to be sorting out next year now.
The Boss has also been back at his painting. It all went very quiet on that front for a few weeks but he is reinvigorated. He has been given several much larger canvases with which to work and he seems to be enjoying himself with them. With all that paint flying about I’m pretty glad to be up here. I reckon by now my lovely brown coat would be full of all sorts of colours if I was still down with him.
As His Nibs has returned to his old self, the last two or three weeks have been a period for him of both saying goodbye but also re-connecting with long-standing friends who he hasn’t seen for a while due to all sorts of reasons. Friends who are not doing so well in the illness stakes either.
He attended a beautiful funeral for his old friend Andy, younger brother of his longest standing pal Geoff who lives in California. A beautiful low-key service, followed by catching up with the beautiful Owens family in all guises. Plus the old boy re-connected with friends from his teenage years and the “friends” table chatted away like it was literally only yesterday they met in the pubs of Worcester.
The Boss had some other long-standing friends over for lunch. It was a really good day, reminiscing about holidays together in Italy and France, the wine, the food and all the laughter. Sometimes he forgets quite how much life he has lived!
It seems His Nibs has a plan to turn his spare bedroom into an art studio. He apparently needs the space and it is fair to say the living-room is completely filled with his canvases. I tell you, there is no room anywhere for a Dylan Dog in the place.
As a result, he has a rather ok double bed available (very nice head & foot stainless steel boards) to go to a good home. Whoever would like it needs to dismantle and get it down the stairs. I think his pal Zynia is going to have it but if she doesn’t I’ll let you all know in case it can be any use to anybody.
The Boss has been watching the events on the world stage with interest but depression. I don’t think it would be very polite of me to repeat what he’s been saying but it is not very complimentary about the actions of the western governments in Afghanistan.
It is hard to believe that it is now 20 years since those planes flew into the Twin Towers in New York. His Nibs told me that when it happened he & Chris were away at their favourite hotel in Majorca (Hotel Cala san Vicenc) with friends Brian & Steph. It all rather took the edge of the week.
Meanwhile, the local world does seem to be returning to a new post-Covid reality. Don’t see too many face-masks out & about but his Nibs is pretty relaxed with it all. There’s plenty of sensible distancing going on plus numbers of cases around Bewdley seem to be pretty low so his approach is that the odds are in his favour of not catching this horrid disease. He certainly isn’t planning any foreign trips in the next year. He’s a proper misery about airports and when he see’s all the queues, delays and covid rules that apply to travel it merely reinforces his prejudices. Much as he loves France, I don’t think there are any wine trips on his short-term agenda.
I should tell you all that he hasn’t given up hope of finding a replacement for yours truly! He keeps his eyes open on the rescue sites but he’s still focusing on another spaniel of some kind, preferably an older creature (over 5 years he reckons) who needs a little less activity than the younger doggies. He still remembers how I ran him ragged over the years, both with walks and my love of ball chasing, I don’t think he needs all that young dog stuff.
I promise to keep you all posted as to any doggie developments.
Finally, I couldn’t let you all go without reflecting on the return to Manchester United of the legendary CR7. The Boss has always been his biggest fan, wherever he was playing. He just hopes that he doesn’t “stunt” the growth of Ole’s team as it has been developing with new, younger players. All will be revealed in time and His Nibs reactions to it all should keep us all entertained.
Stay safe
Woof! Woof!
