Bye and Bye

I’m rollin’ slow – I’m doing all I know

I’m tellin’ myself I found true happiness

That I’ve still got a dream that hasn’t been repossessed

I’m rollin’ slow, goin’ where the wild roses grow

Time marches on and suddenly Him Indoors realised he should be reporting my news and views to you all again. I have a feeling that with me up here walking on the heavenly pavement it sometimes doesn’t register that it’s been a few weeks since he tapped the keyboard in serious reporting mode.

He’s beginning to come out of what he calls “his gloom” that he entered after I left him. With the lockdown kicking in, it was all too much.
However, he has recovered some of his art enthusiasm and the abstracts are starting to flow again. It’s all a bit exciting as he will have three paintings in the Foundry Artists exhibition in Bewdley Museum (Craft Studio) plus one featured in Kimmys Cakes in Load Street, Bewdley.

It’s all a good job because there was no light at the end of the football season when United lost in the Europa Cup Final. Actually, Him Indoors took it well. Mr Bridges expected tantrums when whistle went after they missed final penalty in shoot out but no, much to his amazement, “it’s only a game of football” was the comment.

Lots of Euros being watched but The Boss has never been a great fan of England (well, not since he went to all the England games including final in 1966!!) because, so he tells, going to England games at Wembley in 90’s and 00s and listening to fans chanting “stand up if you hate Man U” didn’t really make him feel loved when there were often four or five United players actually in the team. But along with Mr B he’s enjoyed lots of games.

To be fair, it has been a terrific competition with barely a bad match to be seen. The Boss thinks England have done well but its all a bit boring. I heard him reflecting that Mr Southgate is a thoroughly decent man, a proper human being who cares about his players. His downside is that he seems to very defensive and we are completely awful and unexciting to watch even if we are winning the odd game. Let’s hope we can “bring football home” (he’s not certain it has ever been home since 1966) but without England supporters taking off their shirts, often revealing shameful torso’s to us all.

For all of you down there, the football must be a welcome release from Covid. Covid’s gone on forever but Him Indoors can’t understand why life can’t return to normal. When he’s at his darkest, he is convinced that Covid and govt mistakes have effectively already killed all the most vulnerable so why lock us all up!!!!

Him Indoors has had both his jabs – no reaction at all to either of them – and I guess he’ll be taking the world on again soon if his very poorly knees let him. Poor old boy has rather put on a lot of weight during the enforced lockdown. He hasn’t had dear old me to walk though, so I reckon his knees and back have seized up due to lack of movement. Let’s face it, you can’t spend every day watching box sets!!

His Nibs must be feeling a bit better though because he’s started entertaining again. Somehow he’s managed to turn himself into a half-decent cook and his friends turn up to be fed and watered with great enthusiasm. I gather from my pal’s down there The Boss is quite highly rated but that could, of course, just be a rumour put out among my canine mates to make me envious because I’m up here. He looked after his sister & husband recently, and also had a couple of bunches of friends over in recent weeks. I used to enjoy those dinner events very much because I dined rather well on fish skins and the cheese. I have to give it to His Nibs, his cheeseboard is something else and I know my pal Alf – often in attendance with his boss Karen – thoroughly enjoys the tit-bits he is fed every time.

I know The Boss has been “off the pace” because there has not been much shouting at the tv when political programmes have been airing. He’s even been very quiet over this Hancock Affair, I reckon he’s just become immune to all the lack of honour and values Johnson’s mob exhibit. He’s had a few looks at the new GB News channel, but as a bit of a fan-boy for Andrew Neil he will be disheartened that he’s taken off for a few weeks with the channel only just started.

The good news I have picked up here on the Rainbow Bridge is that The Boss has realistic hopes that his beloved Festival will be able to take place. He and his merry men of the Committee have started to really get to work to bring some top performers to Bewdley. It’s not totally certain, of course, but as long as distancing is ended as expected then it appears the show will be on!!! I will keep my spaniel ears alert to pick up any developments for you all.

Woof! Woof!

Must say I have missed your reports Dylan dog. Ten out of ten for the boss ploughing on with his art work and plans for the festival. He even had his photo in the local newspaper! Some achievement. He’s come a long way from his initial work and now works with a boldness one wouldn’t have believed a few months back. Progress indeed. Let’s hope lots of people will enjoy his and other artists’ work at the Foundry Artists Exhibition at the Bewdley Museum. Looking forward to it, a summertime treat.
