Changing of the Guard

I don’t need your organisation

I’ve shined your shoes, I’ve moved your mountains and marked your cards

But Eden is burning, either get ready for elimination

Or else your hearts must have the courage for the changing of the guards

Life is never simple when you’re trying to keep tabs on everything from up here on the heavenly pavement. His Nibs has suddenly become very busy and very active. My slothful master, comfortably laying on my settee with his box-sets on Prime and Netflix has disappeared. He is reincarnated as almost his old active self, either rushing about working on his computer or his new lap-top or else high-tailing it out for lunch with some of his many friends. It is impossible for me to keep up!

He is keeping his eye out for another dog like me, but I fear he is limiting himself by only really looking at spaniels. He also needs a chap that is 7 or 8 years old and house-trained so that the chosen one can just move in and enjoy his new life of riley with Him Indoors. After all, if he does find another like me, he will certainly take-over again as the most spoiled beast in Bewdley. He had better not try to take over this musing from me. I don’t want that as added pressure up here.

All His Nibs activity is based on the premise that his unbeloved leader Bumbling Boris doesn’t change all the rules again for everybody and restore distancing at indoor events. If that happens, then all this work being done by so many people trying to get his beloved Festival up and running again this year will be in vain.

The tickets are available now at www.bewdleyfestival.org.uk and since they became available to the world His Nibs spends his nights worrying about whether the programme has strong enough appeal for people to buy all the tickets.

I did notice the diary for Him Indoors was filling up with lunch dates.  Now obviously this is all very good after 16 months of misery, with his social life basically being joshing with Mr B whilst watching football on tv and acting seemingly as Mr B’s personal chef. However, this Covid lifestyle has resulted in a significant advance in his weight department. I’m not sure a long catalogue of attending lunches is actually the best way to lose that advance. Let’s be honest, do I really believe he will be buying salads everywhere he goes rather than fish and chips?

The Boss was not impressed by the recent space activities of three of the richest men on the planet. He was scathing , even suggesting it might be better for the world if all three rockets crashed and got rid of them. His Nibs called them “vanity projects” and remarked that if they contributed their money to saving starving children around the world it would be better spent.

Alongside that little rant, he was going on a bit about Mrs Patel and her parliamentary bills to seemingly abolish our freedoms at every move. He’s not been very impressed with Mrs Patel about anything. His views on her treatment of the boat refugees really are not very complimentary whilst after her comment about “gesture politics” towards United’s Marcus Rashford and his England team-mates prior to claiming to be anti-racist reduced him to spluttering over his beer.

Fortunately, as I’ve written, The Boss has roused himself from the gloom and darkness from which he suffered for several months. It’s easy to understand why folks can be gloomy with the nightmare scenarios that seem to be taking all round the world what with climate change, wars, millions both starving and fleeing from the dangers etc.

Talking of beer, how about this! As I have said, looking down from up here you miss a few things. When I was lay on my settee (His Nibs thought it was his but actually it was always mine) I was super observant so His Nibs couldn’t get away with anything.

Therefore, it took me a few days to realise that His Lordship had ceased to open bottles of wine, but even more surprising didn’t appear to pouring himself his usual very large Irish whiskey every evening.

Now I know Him Indoors and these little phases usually don’t last long. A couple of days and he submits to his needs! It’s the same when he enters the theoretical world (for him) of dieting. Two days maximum and the salad goes in the bin and into the oven go the roast potatoes.

I shall keep you updated my dear friends but don’t hold your breath!

Him Indoors has been helping out at the Art Exhibition as well. His own painting seems to have slowed down a little, probably a good job. I counted nearly 200 last year before I departed up here to the Rainbow Bridge and he was carrying on at the same rate this year until the last few weeks. Prolific or what?!?!

I get the impression that he’s not sure where his painting is going at the moment. He’s enjoyed going to few of the class’s but I reckon learning a bit of technique has rather confused his little mind and he’s having a struggle to remember the style that represents him. No doubt he will sort it out for himself before too long.

We will all have to get used to the return of the football season soon. His Nibs will no doubt soon be discussing the why’s and wherefore’s of the United performances. At least I’m football free here on the heavenly pavement although this doesn’t make up for all those fish-skins I’m missing out on!

I found The Boss in reminiscing mode just the other day when he was reading about the new short-term plans for the restaurant site of Le Caprice in London. It was one of the favourite restaurant ‘s for him & Chris, particularly after they had taken customer’s to the Opera at Covent Garden. When you get to The Bosses age, happy memories become more important I reckon.

He often smiles about those days, you lovely readers should ask him about them. Those memories would bring a smile to you as well.

Stay safe, god bless

Woof! Woof!
