He’s back! He’s back to an almost normal existence. He’s at home – mostly. I’ve just about forgiven him, we’ve returned to semi-normality and I have been spoiled rotten for most of the last week. You folks probably think I’m heartless in how I exploit his love, but sometimes it has to be done. Just abandoning me for about two weeks is no small detail, even if he has absolutely made certain I have my two walks every day and I have my food served up at the right times.
I was soooooo lonely when he was out enjoying himself at the Festival. I admit to a bit of mischief, into the recycle sack a couple of times when I sniffed a scent of food containers inside. But I did miss his idle body on the settee watching sport and providing me with a running commentary on the inadequacies of both players and referees. This year I’m particularly taken with something called VAR. I have no idea what it is, but he refers to it many times in football matches.
No sooner were we back to normality when it all changed once again. For a portly chap of my age, all this change is not necessarily good for me. Out we went one morning for my constitutional (I am a Springer of habit and routine) to find an army of workers busily erecting the flood defence’s. My usual walk was closed off. Now I don’t know too much about rivers but it all seemed a bit premature from my view down here on the pavement. Little do I know. The next morning I was a grateful boy as my normal route was under water! As an educated creature, I can only marvel at the science and engineering behind these things. Him Indoors tells me knowingly it is a German system and therefore it is obviously brilliant! His bias after working for them for 25 years is unparalleled, let me tell you.
The changes continued when he loaded me in the car – now I do not enjoy the car but I tolerate it – and we set off down to deepest Devon. Lynmouth is a very nice place, very small and it would appear welcoming to dogs. We spent a couple of days mooching about, bit of walking, bit of reading (in the bar I should tell you), inevitably some eating and a very great deal of climbing a lot of stairs in our little hotel. It was a place called The Bath, and I recommend it to other dogs as they tend to leave little bowls of doggie biscuit treats lay around and about.
When we returned home it became apparent that the football team had returned to their bad old inconsistent ways and that The Dreaded Bridges was in full throttle! I really am not sure visits to the Brewery are a good idea with TDB too often. The pair of them become very loud, their football and music discussions over-powering my sleeping ability. I should add it does not appear to diminish their capacity to quaff rather nice red wine on an industrial scale whilst polishing off rib-eye steaks that I never get a chance to get at!
Next thing I know is that I’m left on my own yet again when he goes off to lunch with my mate Riley’s folks. I gather Riley was a bit poorly, but I was a bit sad I couldn’t go and cheer him up. We intelligent chaps need to stick together you know! Him Indoors returned “the worse” I think, mainly because I couldn’t get any sense out of him and I was very glad when he decided it was bed-time.
This is because it meant I could avoid the daily dose of election-itis! How tedious I am finding all this. How all you folks who have to take it seriously cope with it all I have no idea.
It seems to me as I stroll on the broken pavements, passing uncleared drains and roads full of polluting vehicles poisoning us all that our Masters have little clue and no idea about how to succeed in this mad world. It appears, from what I hear spouting from their mouths on the tv, that they believe money can solve every problem they encounter as opposed to possibly, just possibly, considering it may be the cause?
Woof! Woof!
