Down here in Rumpy Pumpy Court we’ve been social distancing for a week now. I confess that sometimes over the years I’ve felt I’ve been social distancing as a normal way of life. After all, as you well know, I am a superior sort of springer, which means I don’t mix naturally with most other dogs. I’m certainly not aggressive, but it has always been my way to avoid these other creatures whenever possible although now it has to be done I will admit I feel as though I’m missing out on something.
What I am not missing out on are those queues. Now listen, I’m naturally selfish – being a spoilt doggie – but these people with their trolley’s full of food are beneath contempt. I actually don’t understand all the panic. Even I don’t panic if my food is a bit late, and what’s the panic about biscuits? How does that equate to anything at all? The Boss and I always have a laugh about the Christmas panic. When he goes, because there is only us, his trolley looks pathetically empty. I barked “Billy No Mates” at him last year, he wasn’t very impressed with me.
I am quite enjoying strolling along the riverside with nobody much about. I can go off my lead – I loathe my lead, I’m far too important and self -confident to need some old bloke (Him Indoors) to be in charge of me – and mooch about all over the place. However, I am quite surprised at the number of folks I still see in the shops. The Boss won’t go in unless there are only a couple of customers inside.
We were lay on the settee discussing the whole thing yesterday. I think we finally decided these events are going to change life as we know it forever. His Nibs thought that the capitalist system would be forced to change because business won’t survive in its previous form. Everything from airlines downwards will go bust. My view, having studied economics from the pages of the media whilst squatting, is that this is probably Nature saving the human race from itself and giving Mother Earth (to whom I feel very close down here on the pavement) a happy break from our pollution.
Who knows. I do know that Him Indoors is not a happy bunny. If I’ve learnt one thing from being with him for nearly eight years is that he is a people person. He needs the company of people. He may enjoy watching his football alone – I mean not in a pub because he considers most folks know sod all about football – but he always wants to communicate with somebody about the game. If its United, it’s always his son and grandson.
But I can tell he’s missing already seeing / meeting his friends – girls and boys. Sitting on the settee he cuts rather a lonely figure. I try to help but the old rear legs are not what they were, so I have to keep asking for a lift up so that I can lay by him with my nose snuggled on his thigh.
As I have told you, we are wandering into town as part of our social distancing. But avoiding everybody, not going in shops, mainly buying shopping on-line means the usual banter to which I am accustomed to has all gone.
As we watched this evenings press conference, this dog realised that my world, the world I have known for ever, has gone. The freedom to which I am used is over. The state now runs all our lives. It is paying us all, even if you haven’t got a job. Him Indoors observed that if the western world was ever in danger of a bloodless far-right coup taking place, this is the perfect moment. The finance actions may be left-wing (lets face it, if Corbyn had introduced these actions the right-wing media would have been in uproar) but always remember who is controlling it all.
Oh….and keep your eyes on the USA. The Mad Donald may just seize the moment! After all, if you have a State of Emergency I’m sure you could cancel an election as well.
Stay safe my dear friends.
Woof! Woof!
