I Am A Lonesome Hobo

I am a lonesome hobo

Without family or friends

Where another man’s life might begin

That’s exactly where mine ends

Looking down from my heavenly pavement, it is increasingly clear many people are struggling with this winter lockdown. Him Indoors is having so many conversations with friends who are finding it mentally difficult, particularly because there seems no way they can plan for their future.

Even we dogs – at least we that are special & intelligent – enjoyed knowing the plans. I liked to know if I was going to stay with Auntie Karen before I was actually in her hall!!!

The Boss used to live his life by his diary, which I found very useful as I knew when I could have a good sleep or the run of the house. His Nibs thought I slept on the settee but most of the time when he was out I was up on his bed snoring like a good ‘un.

Talking about the future, Him Indoors is very busy helping plan for the future with various projects that involve his beloved Festival to various levels of involvement. This is proving to be very healthy for him because he is not suffering from the interminable boring life being imposed on so many.

His Nibs observed the other evening that he finds it very hard sometimes to understand how he feels. This may sound strange, but what I understand he meant was that he can feel “down” and “lethargic” one day, but the next he can be all “bright” and “active”. (Naturally his version of active is mental, not running five miles or riding his virtually new barely used exercise bike)
He pondered on this the other evening when he realised late in the evening (no, he wasn’t the worse for the whiskey, I was looking down checking on him) how good he felt.
His analysis of it was, in these difficult times, that a super day with his bubble friend Mr Bridges watching football inevitably had been really enjoyable but surprise visitors calling before Mr B arrived and distancing themselves outside, had made it a different day and hence the “feel good factor”. Proof indeed that our lack of socialising can be very negative mentally indeed!!!!

The Boss had a busy day when out of the blue two potential new doggies came up for him. Both of these lovely doggies were rescue dogs, escaping from some not so pleasant environments in Spain. Both could indeed be described as “lonesome hobos”!!

One arrived from the lovely Deborah Bonham who sent him information on a black Breton Spaniel still in Spain. She has sent him off for medical reviews after Him Indoors confirmed he was interested . but blow me, within an hour another Breton (brown & white) came up for adoption on a rescue site & The Boss told them he was interested as well.

I give you this story to explain how tricky all this seems to be, especially because His Nibs his loathe to disappoint anybody.
Personally I would laugh like a drain if he ended up with two! But he hasn’t, he felt the chappie found by Deborah was meant for him and we are expecting his arrival at Rumpy Pumpy Court some time around March 7th.

The Boss is, however, all of a dither. As I have just mentioned, his good friend Deborah helps rescue animals in Europe and she has found His Nibs this dog to rescue to take my place down in Rumpy Pumpy Court. I reserve my full judgement until I get to see the little chap when he arrives in England.
Being a Breton Spaniel he is, like me, very handsome. Unlike me he is white and black. Unlike me he is not “well trained”. His Nibs just hopes he can cope with a spanish speaking pooch.

Why the dither then? It’s all about his name. The Boss will change it (that’s definite) but too what? His Nibs wants to keep his name “close and related” to me  (Dylan) because there are lots of you nice people who like this blog & he doesn’t want veer away from the link with the musical maestro after whom I’m named.
We’ll see what happens when the chap turns up!

Him Indoors is watching the media game with the budget proposals with great interest. When he was talking to our friend Auntie Karen (and obviously Alf because otherwise how would I know) he was explaining his reasons for his belief that we need a “revolution” in thought processes and ideas, led by a new centre left party. He’s given up on Labour doing anything except tinker around the edges of the current liberal capitalist system. He would like somebody , anybody, to explain why we are still allowing new buildings to be built which are not 100% eco friendly?
Why is nobody talking about replacing the current education year with a 52 week calendar , broken up with 6 or 7 two week breaks, that could help the children who have suffered so badly for this year but also to help create a totally new approach?
He believes we all need a new world after this pandemic and the nation (& the world) need visionary leaders at this time.
His old world was in the retail market but you want to hear him go on about how governments have totally misunderstood the on-line digital revolution. He goes on at anybody who will listen!

Meanwhile I’ve been learning a bit of Spanish up here. You may ask why, on the heavenly pavement, do I – a deceased Springer spaniel, you may remember – need Spanish. Well, I’ve been in negotiations checking out this rather cool Breton spaniel that I think may suit his His Nibs as a new friend. But the chap is a Spanish Breton so for the interviews I had to learn a bit as his English is not too good!

Woof! Woof!
