Can’t you hear that rooster crowin’?
Rabbit runnin’ down across the road
Underneath the bridge where the water flowed through
So happy just to see you smile
Underneath the sky of blue
On this new morning, new morning
On this new morning with you
It’s all too exciting up here on the heavenly pavement. His Nibs has met the transport from Spain and his new Dylan has arrived.
He is Zimmy, a handsome black and white pedigree Breton (Brittany) Spaniel. Once worth 1,000 Euros apparently but now rejected and left to scavenge for his own survival and rescued by Sharon Moreno over in Southern Spain. His name is the same as Dylan. Both of us named after the Maestro Bob Dylan, whose birth name was Zimmerman hence Zimmy.
So this little written nonsense doesn’t have to change its name because it’s the still the same! Zimmy = Dylan, Dylan = Zimmy.
I’ve been telling The Boss to get some photos put up here and if you look carefully in our sidebar gallery there are some photos of Zimmy just after he arrived in Rumpy Pumpy Court. His Nibs will probably relegate my handsome face to insignificance eventually!!
I’ve managed to make contact with Zimmy since his arrival. Now Zimmy himself won’t tell you everything about himself. He’s a modest chap but also a chap who has not had a very good time. It is why when I was vetting potential replacements for His Nibs I chose him as he needed some serious love and affection which I thought suited Him Indoors, who can become just a little complacent on life and needs an occasional push in the right direction.
Zimmy is a “retired” hunting dog, formerly named Faruk. (Not hard to work out a name change was needed!!) Some would say “failed” not “retired” (after only he is only 5 next month) because he developed a serious allergy to sudden loud noises like gun-shots and wouldn’t (or couldn’t) be of any further use to his hunter owners.
Even when he was of use his life was not pleasant. Kept chained in a hut on a sort-of raised shelf, able to jump down to do his business and jump back up. Probably only let out when held on short tight leash to hunt.
I could tell he was a nervous chap and I really wanted him to be spoiled as only His Nibs can do.
Life for His Nibs has proved difficult since Zimmy arrived on Tuesday evening.
Zimmy has no understanding of toilet habits being for outside. Zimmy has no recall and so needs to be always on a lead when outside because Him Indoors lives with a communal courtyard not his own garden. Unfortunately, Zimmy is terrified of leads!! Whenever The Boss approaches him with a lead he shakes, often panic wee’s and “cowers” when lead is attached.
The other morning I looked down upon a scene that should probably have been filmed. The Boss hadn’t put a lead on, opened his door and POW!!! Zimmy was out and gone! Just like Usain Bolt in the Olympic final!
Sadly the courtyard gates were open. Not good.
Pow! Zimmy exited stage left and set off down the riverside, not bothering to look back. Low, like a jet, in his hunting position. At speed!!
He was pursued – mmm – by a portly (a kind description) grey haired gentleman with bad knees in his pyjamas and barefoot – The Boss!!!
Thankfully, one of the vets and a nurse were on their way to work (it was early) and coralled Zimmy for His Nibs to get a lead around Zimmy’s neck!!
A rather scary situation (if very hilarious) was averted.
Not long before his new forever furry friend was due to arrive His Nibs was late for sleep. Zimmy will have to learn that Him Indoors occasionally puts on The Maestro late at night and it’s always meant trouble. It means the Boss is not for sleep but for fun. But his fun is limited because there is no lady, no Chris, to share the musical emotion with him. He sits high on his cloud but wants to share his emotions. I suppose we all feel like that sometimes.
So as his Maestro performs His Nibs remembers the great nights, the nights of youth (or more like middle age) when as a couple they danced and laughed and loved and shared the fun. The nights that the kids were taught how to jive, (remember that Robert, Lucy, Becky?), the nights that everybody laughed and laughed, that friends said the Maestro couldn’t sing and His Nibs argued as he laughed.
Nights they danced up the garden together, the music so loud neighbours the next day said “ that bloody Bob Dylan was playing last night” or on other occasions “Springsteen was good last night”!!! Or “were you playing Tom Petty last night”.
It makes him think of the friends of many years who he no longer see’s very much. He thinks of the friends he will never see again, all left this world too early.
He wishes every person who he has ever met understood why the Maestro is THE greatest “artist” of the last 100 years and is sad they will be gone when the world recognises Dylan as the modern Shakespeare and more.
The emotion of the music is often too great for him, the memories just to savage, too raw. The fact his Chris loved Bob as well was pure luck. It wasn’t a conversation of their courtship but by god it helped through their 42 years.
My Nibs has become a solitary man now, who needs and loves his many friends who have helped him through his solitary years. Our great friend Mr Bridges talks of “Wilderness Years”, but Him Indoors talks of “Solitary Years” and he doesn’t view them kindly even with all his lovely friends.
I leave you with Zimmy beginning to understand how much his world is changing for the better. Him Indoors is going to have to work hard because Zimmy comes with some major issues that have to be resolved, but from up here looking down on little old Bewdley, my home for so many years, I know all his friends will help him in his new challenge.
And “Him Indoors” knows how wonderful his friends have been since he lost not only his love but me, his best survival friend of ten years., and I know how great his new world will be with Zimmy.
Woof! Woof!
You’re gonna have to serve somebody
You may call me Timmy, you may call me Zimmy
You may call me R.J, you may call me Ray
You may call me anything but no matter what you say
You’re gonna have to serve somebody
