Nothing was delivered, But I can’t say I sympathise, With what your fate is going to be, Yes for telling all those lies; Now you must provide some answers, For what you sold that’s not been received, And the sooner you come up with them, The sooner you can leave

I’m really starting to have had enough of this. I know these days I’m a naturally lazy old boy, what with the legs and being just a touch tubby, but doing the same walks, sitting around and never going anywhere different, not seeing my pals is growing tiresome. In addition to having to put up with this, because Him Indoors is now only Indoors he has started staying up late.

Now, I’m a creature who needs my sleep. I do occasionally revert to type as a dog. I did not expect The Boss to revert to a type that existed before I ran his life. Its like Chris has returned and is in charge of the music. We don’t go to bed. We watch TV and then – its music time!

Often YouTube, not always. All sorts of stuff is assaulting my elderly ears. Loudly. I blame Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires. If they hadn’t started putting their little “barn” show on YouTube at 11.00 he would have been tucked up in bed, watching the news, whilst I would be snoring on the floor. Instead, they know better and get him all switched on. The Jamesons (or Tullamore Dew or Bushmills or Blackbushe) starts flowing, then when they’ve finished its Bruce, or Tom, or Bob or Lucinda, or Jason again or god knows who.

Meanwhile I’m trying to sleep and settle. He knows I need him in the bedroom for me to settle but does he care? Not a jot. Next thing its 3.00 or something and he yawns, finds my Dentistix and stumbles up the stairs expecting me to stop him if he slips. The alternative picture, my dear friends, is that he bounces down the hall walls from the computer where he’s been playing You Tube and very often treading on me. I ask you, what can a carer do?

Talking about carers brings me to this whole COVIC-19 circus. Where do I start, lay upon the top of my settee worried about Him Indoors. I watch the news, read the papers over his shoulder – I know what’s going down.

We’ve done a bit of research, me and the Old Boy. It does appear the powers that be knew all about this lot way back in January! Plus, they’d been told in many reports over the years there was going to be a pandemic and everybody had better get ready. But nobody did. Anybody. Anywhere. At least, not regarding building stocks of equipment to deal with it when it arrived.

If you believe Rolling Stone magazine, in the USA Trump reacted by sacking the pandemic organisation team last year when they warned him and consciously decided not to do anything. I think all my readers know the aforesaid Trump is not a favourite in this household. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/trump-president-coronavirus-plague-982150/?fbclid=IwAR028coiWJ5Hg2LA62TK-K8OCRDY-5pUv-ACEb5OElLOUAh591fDYQNbgDQ

As a result of all these apparent failings, Him Indoors is gradually changing from a pragmatic centre-left sort of bloke into a raging revolutionary plotting to overcome the establishment and introduce some sort of new order. He would just “take” most of the wealth from the billionaires (“nobody needs more than a million quid”), he would tax Amazon, Facebook etc on their sales (“then they can set up anywhere, it doesn’t matter”), he would increase tax by 10% (“if we want a proper Health & Care Service we’ve all got to pay for it”) and he would “find a way to take money out of big houses” because we old buggers shouldn’t expect the working young to pay all the debts! You see what I mean. Bewdleys pensioner version of Che Guevara.  It must be because he’s been getting really mad at the lack of equipment for nurses and care homes. I’ve told him to play more music and stop trying to save the world in his mind, it will drive him insane.

I must also let you know that we have some super friends. Sarah & John have turned up with Bewdley Brewery beer, so we sit outside well distanced and chat about things. It’s been a bit hot for me (I’m not a great fan of the sun) but I’ve taken up position in the front door where its shady. I like to create the impression I’m a guard dog. The other way I do this is barking loudly at shadows.

Sarah also gets the Old Boy shopping if he needs it although I gather we’ve been a bit lucky with getting Ocado deliveries. Then we had Val arrive with a bottle of Canadian Rye whisky to keep him happy. We see our neighbours regularly when we sit on the benches in the courtyard so it seems to me it’s more of a holiday than a lockdown for us chaps. Karen and my pal Alf arrived as well, a homemade Scotch Egg being the pretence to sit in the sun and discuss any gossip going around. Sadly, Alf had no dog gossip for me so I guarded the front door once again.

Together with lots of telephone calls and video, these visits help retain our sanity. I prefer the visits because I never get the chance to appear on the video calls as I’m normally sleeping. We’ve turned into a sleeping house, Him Indoors takes many a nap.

I’ll let you get on. Make sure you stay safe, I’m just enjoying having the Old Boy here with me all of the time. He’s smiling this morning as I write, he had a wine delivery yesterday so is at peace with world.

God bless.

Woof! Woof!
