Well, I’m livin’ in a foreign country but I’m bound to cross the line
Beauty walks a razor’s edge, someday I’ll make it mine
If I could only turn back the clock to when God and her were born
“Come in” she said “I’ll give you shelter from the storm”
Life down in Rumpy Pumpy Court has been a trifle difficult in recent weeks. The Boss has not been his usual self, normally always looking on the bright side of life. It seems to me as I look down from up on the heavenly pavement that this long period of lockdown has had an unusually negative effect upon him. I was used to him springing into action in the mornings, cups of tea and the such-like before taking me out down by the river. OK, in our last two years together we didn’t walk all that far but it was enough to keep me interested in everything. It could be Him Indoors is missing me more than he thought; maybe he’s still sad that little Zimmy didn’t work out as he wanted. Whatever it is, he definitely is not his usual loud self.
Perhaps he listens to too much current affairs. Let’s face it, as far as I can tell, its all pretty depressing stuff everywhere.
I wish I could come down from the rainbow bridge just once and give a little lick on his nose. I miss him too, you know. I heard the expression “mild depression’ and that’s where he is. The biggest reason I know this is that he’s not playing any music – even Bob Dylan. A sure sign that he’s somewhere he doesn’t want to be.
I do have the opportunity however of looking down from up here and observing lots of friends. Because I’ve been a trifle worried about him, not too much, I admit, I fully know him well enough that he will bounce back before many days are gone. You know what, many of his friends are struggling in the same way as Him Indoors. Some less, some more but as a doggie generalisation “everybody has had enough”.
It’s good that he seems to coming out of his “depression” at long last. You may ask how I can tell? It’s easy actually – when he begins playing music again you know that the sunlight is coming back through the darkness. The music has been floating upwards at long last in the past week. New Van Morrison – the king of grumpy has produced a grumpy album for us to enjoy;
Lukas Nelson, Sarah Jarosz, John Hiatt ,Amy Helm – all good stuff for him.
New music has been happily playing in Rumpy Pumpy at long last. Let’s hope the sunshine stays.
It was beginning to look like normality after Covid and then along comes another variant to threaten everybody again. Actually, from up here, it doesn’t look very threatening in truth because it’s all based in specific areas.
Normality is needed desperately. It’s not just Him Indoors suffering, lots of folks are feeling very unsettled and withdrawn.
The Boss has been to a couple of art classes. They certainly test his painting because technique is not top of his ability list when it comes to using the brushes. Instinctive would be my spaniel word for him. Somehow his splish splash approach works rather well it seems judging by the nice comments he receives.
He has been very distressed by the events over in Israel. Children being killed is not a pretty sight or a good reflection on either society in their conflict.
It does seem that wherever American money is involved it naturally follows that there is an outbreak of trouble. Perhaps they should consider stopping interfering in places?
Meanwhile his mate Auntie Karen is still hopping around on one leg after falling out of an apple tree. Her faithful border collie Alf is in constant touch with me. He relates fun tales of sitting on a motorised disabled scooter riding around town with “Hopalong”. It all seems rather fun to me.
Him Indoors has not been slow in becoming Him Outdoors now that you can go to the pub. For a committed wine and whiskey (Irish) drinker he has suddenly become more than partial to a pint!!!
It would be remiss of me (and an insult to the man after whom I was named) not to remind all my loyal followers that this Monday, 24th May 2021, is the 80th birthday of The Maestro. The Boss has often commented to me that The Maestro has been in his life since 1965. He considered himself “a very lucky boy” that his lovely Chris turned out to be a bit of a fan as well. “A bonus” he told me one night when we were reminiscing, playing his music and thinking of Chris. He’s been to nearly 100 of The Maestro’s concert performances but considers himself a lightweight in the passionate community of Maestro followers!!!!
So, I conclude this short muse by suggesting you all raise a glass at this time to Mr Bob Dylan and pray that he is able to continue for many more years. When he comes to join me, your world will be very empty indeed.
God Bless
Woof! Woof!
