Spanish Boots of Spanish Leather

So take heed, take heed of the western wind

Take heed of the stormy weather

And yes, there’s something you can send back to me

The Boss has a split personality at the moment. His positive personality reflects his painting, his projects allied to the Festival and his friends who have been very supportive during lockdown. His negative personality reflects that his chosen new doggie pal has been delayed in Spain until end of the month.

Then he reflects on the lack of vision amongst our so called leaders (at all levels) & society’s unwillingness to take proper care of the poorest members of society, our so called key workers and the seemingly disregard of the younger members of our society.
Now please don’t believe His Nibs is sat fretting. He’s not, he’s far too busy laughingly trying to be Bewdley’s Picasso. Lockdown has proved difficult for his mentors to be satisfactorily involved in order to inspire him which has meant that he has to “self inspire”. This is obviously more difficult in my absence because a handsome looking dog can work wonders on the mind.

Since Blundering Boris’s recent statement, everybody is hoping that we are going to gradually return to “normality” over next three months. Him Indoors takes a more pessimistic view because Covid isn’t going anywhere, it’s still here and apparently in parts of Europe (mainly Italy) it is starting to increase again. His Nibs is living in hope and with his cohorts is busy planning his Festival and Music events for later in the year.
But you know, I’ve become aware that “normality” for many people might be an alternative word for “loneliness”. I’ve observed from up here that individuals have different views on what “loneliness” actually means for them.

True loneliness is an awful thing and plays upon a person’s mind. It can change their personality in a negative way.The Boss suffers occasionally from being alone. Not often, but regularly enough that I used to recognise the signs. It was at those moments that I used to snuggle into him on the settee and try to make him remember all the good times. We all need to socialise, and this lockdown that’s going on makes it impossible for true socialising to take place. It has seemed worse for His Nibs this time as I’m not there, but he’s one of the lucky ones with his Festival projects and his painting to keep his mind active. What if your stuck on the 12th floor of a tower block with two small children? Or you ‘re elderly, live alone and have no outside interests?

Up on the heavenly pavement I have plenty of time to reflect upon my time on earth and my observations of life. I rather shared his hopes that society would take the time of the pandemic to work out where liberal capitalism was going wrong in delivering terrible inequalities around the whole world but I sadly must say that I have seen no sign of this happening.

The rush to recover to “normality of old” has seen the death of that idea. Now I am well aware perfection doesn’t exist unless you are a springer spaniel who has an owner who treats you like you are both royalty and human! I am fascinated to watch how he treats his new pal when he arrives in a couple of weeks. I’m sure he will be spoiled on arrival to help him settle in from Spain. But – and here’s the question dear folks – will he be indulged like I was with the best of everything. Watch this space!

Going back to his painting, he’s attended three of Hilary Baker’s on-line art classes with Foundry Artists. The Boss was a little reluctant to attend because there are some very good artists participating and he is a bit of an ‘abstract art’ man; not very technical at all and certainly lacking in technique resulting in a certain lack of confidence of being in the same company as some of these fine artists. He is learning some interesting stuff which I think will help him a lot in the future. I still don’t understand his paintings, they are so abstract and so “from the soul” it’s all too much for a mere heavenly creature.

When the new furry friend arrives from Spain I will get His Nibs to put photos of a painting or two on this little note as well as photos of the new woofter. I’ll be able to let you know his name next time as I gather one of The Bosses considerations in his naming is keeping my little missive going even with the arrival of a new chap. I am going to be greatly amused at his attempts to teach the poor creature English. Think about it! The first words he will learn will all be swear words (like foreign footballers arriving here), of that I am certain. Then I reckon he will get names confused and keep calling him Dylan. The poor beast will be totally confused inside three days.

On that amusing, but sympathetic, thought I will leave you. Exciting times for us all as this new Spanish bounder arrives in our lives. I just hope he learns English quickly so that he can talk to me when he arrives because I don’t know any Spanish, that’s for certain.

Woof! Woof!
