Down here on the pavement the weather is a pretty important subject. After all, when it’s raining I haven’t any raincoat protecting me. Or my belly! I’m far too macho to allow one of those doggie macs anywhere near me. Come on, let’s be honest – animals look stupid in those things. The poor creature wearing one always appears a bit sheepish to me, visibly embarrassed by it all.
The weather is actually a pretty big subject to everybody I’ve decided, not just we vertically challenged fellows down on the pavement. I hear so many conversations about the weather but why doesn’t everyone understand one thing – they can’t change it. At least, not unless they’re some green scientist who is monitoring outer space and can empty the clouds or control the sun. So we all have to just get on with it. In my limited experience, there are not many of them walking around Jubilee Gardens on a wet morning in August.
Meanwhile I read that if I want to fly off to the sun to escape the rain, I can expect to be delayed in some pit of an airport for hours and hours. The Boss has given up on flying in Europe, whenever a train journey is practical, for some years. My goodness, he can rant about air travel. He actually tells people that it’s because he doesn’t want to leave me behind that he has given it up. I can tell you it’s nothing to with me. It’s because he’s such an impatient bloke he simply refuses to suffer all this security nonsense. I am innocent. I have to say I’m pretty relieved though as I certainly wouldn’t want to suffer those queues.
We walked to the pub yesterday and I got myself in a bit of bother. I had naturally been “working the pub” successfully. Plenty to nibble on and one kind chap really appreciated my efforts so much he gave me his scratchings. But then I wandered out of the door towards the road. Him indoors went barmy, clipped me round the ear and dragged me back inside by my collar. Bit of an over-reaction I thought but he really was not very happy.
I’ve taken to reading The Times. It’s a better class of newspaper I feel. They have some very interesting articles, although there are some with which I really don’t agree. But a recent one has stuck in my mind where the argument was put forward that our current bunch of politicians are all stuck in the past, with no credible policies about dealing with the changing world. Bang on I thought! More on another day about this.
A £200 million football transfer seems to have excited folks, but the Boss explained to me that it’s not about football at all, it’s about geo-politics in the Middle East. That is a long way beyond me.
However, football does return this week which will provide me with lots of good stories for you all.
Woof! Woof! Woof!
