Turn your back, wash your hands There’s always someone who understands; It don’t matter no more what you got to say, Its unbelievable it would go down this way

Great music is my inspiration. I’ve learned to love it through Him Indoors, even though it sometimes is so loud my ears often hurt a little. Ok, mainly because I lay with my head on the speaker legs. But having heard the great music of Lucinda Williams and Jason Isbell SO MUCH since I last put a few words together I am at the point of pleading with The Boss – can we have something else? He’s not keen because the albums are so great but my hopes of change have increased as the date for Bob Dylan’s new album draws closer.

We haven’t had too much time for music alone, because Rump Pumpy Court has received lots of visitors to our residence. This is great because it keeps Himself chirpy, he gets very low without meeting people in this lockdown thingy. We are very blessed with having so many friends who care about us and appear from nowhere to check us out. As a result, I could add the lockdown doesn’t seem to have had much effect here in many ways.

The downside does seem to be that His Nibs has turned into a non-stop wine drinking machine and my meal-times are all over the place. We stay sat outside until its going dark, I mean, come on! The number of bottles going in the bin defy description, but I keep a low profile so that I don’t get associated with it all. I have a reputation to maintain!

I am a dog of routine, not interested in this al fresco approach despite enjoying our friends. It has been very hot, too hot for me, but all was saved last week when The Boss took me to be clipped. How happy I was to see my friend Kim, clippers in hand, awaiting my arrival. I couldn’t get into that dog parlour fast enough, I tell you, and I even let her give my big spaniel paws a good clipping.

What hasn’t decreased is his ranting about the politics of the world!!! My goodness, we’ve been having a lot of it. I’m surprised the neighbours haven’t been round to tell him to be quiet! Most of the ranting is done in a very sad way because so many people have died but I must tell you I’ve never seen him so angry about anything (and he can get angry about not very much, believe me).

He’s been gathering a head of steam ever since Boris & The Shambles dithered and mithered about introducing a lockdown. Him Indoors shut us down two weeks earlier at home because, he told me, when he read about coronavirus it was obvious it was very dangerous. He is not impressed how long it took for the government to react, especially as they allowed major events to take place that, as he says “just made sure it would spread”.

Then he starts on about “sending the infected old to kill off the residents of care homes”. Blimey, you ought to hear him go off on this one. I retreat behind the settee but my ears can’t escape. Anybody who doesn’t know him would think he’s been taking lessons from Comrade Corbyn about how to protest whilst achieving nothing.

Finally on this subject, he has been quite cross about the Dominic Cummings affair. I don’t understand all the furore really, as it seems to me he only jumped in the car with the family and popped up the road. Isn’t everybody doing that? Judging by when The Boss takes me out in an afternoon, most of the population have jumped in their cars and come to Bewdley to promenade by the river eating chips. Him Indoors told me he was cross because Bumbling Boris and his backing band of brainless ministers all told lies about it. We’re a gentle pair, me and him, but I am with him when it comes to hypocrisy. I normally join in with a good bark, just to make the point.

He announced to me this morning that football is coming back. A small part of me is pleased, it will give him the chance to forget all the woes of the world and become obsessional once again about our beloved United. I shall retreat to somewhere safe – probably the bedroom if I can make it up the stairs – in order to make every effort to avoid the bad language and frustration that will inevitably follow as he hogs my settee. He doesn’t normally kick me, but it has been close. The big question is will he make Mr Bridges stand outside in the flower bed and watch through the window. Actually, Mr B can’t sit still so it would be easy to claim he was walking through our living-room to go to the loo, which perhaps shows just how stupid these “rules” seem to be. Ok in garden, not in house. Same friends. Mmmmm. Good job doesn’t apply to my mate Alf.

Talking music again, the Old Boy is very happy that we can now play his entire music library through the house Sonos system. His No 1 IT king Jack Barnett sneaked in to fix it for him. I love it because he puts his songs into “shuffle” and we have no idea what is going to play. We’ve found lots of songs that His Nibs has no idea who it is performing! Its hilarious watching him trying to guess.

Stay safe folks, put the sun cream on, and enjoy your drive to Durham which apparently is a compulsory activity for us all.

Woof! Woof!
